Asymmetrical in design, it is basically a rectangle obscured by its concave faces. It has a smooth and elegant curves combined with its monochrome colour code produces a clean and modern looking device. To the right side ( see picture above ) The symmetry is broken by the Disk Drive slot, adorning it is the PlayStation logo in full colour. Under that you will find the eject button symbol in blu and to the far right the power/reset symbol in green(both are touch) The Top face sports a sleek sliver text displaying he console name.
The back is where most of the ports are found. From left to right you will find the HDMI out, Ethernet, the digital out and the AC Multi Out. To the far right you will find the main power switch and directly under it the power socket. The Grid is the release of the heat created by the hard ware and directed by the fans.
The Controller remained the same for the most part in design though it did become wireless. You would still have to charge it from time to time. They also removed the analogue button from the center and replaced it with the PlayStation button, this is used to turn on the controller and also allow access to your PlayStation profile.
Over the years they released 2 Slimmer versions of the Playstation 3. The Slim and the Super Slim. Though they did improve on size some of the defining characteristics where lost, such as the sleek shiny look to a matte dull look.

History
The PlayStation 3 was officially shown to the public on May 16 the 2005 during the E3 conference, though the console was not present and it also sported a new controller design. The first proto type was unveiled on May of 2005. It featured 2 HDMI ports, 3 Ethernet ports and 6 USB Ports which where later reduced to cut costs of the console.Two hardware types where announced, the 20 GB and a 60 GB model priced at 500$ and 600$ respectively. They where to be simultaneously released world wide on the 11th of November 2006 for Japan and the 17th for North America and Europe.
Upon its release the PlayStation 3 sold over 81 thousand units within the first 24 hours in Japan. When it was released in North America violence erupted due to the demand of the console. Campers were being shot a gunpoint and others where being harassed with drive by bb gun shootings, In one extreme case a customer was even shot and 60 people were even caught fighting over the last 10 consoles left in the store.
